Tour HIGHLIGHTS
DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Your adventure begins with a 07:00 morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Leaving the city behind, you will enjoy a scenic five-hour drive toward the semi-arid landscapes of the north. Upon arrival at Samburu, the striking contrast of acacia woodlands and the Ewaso Ng’iro River creates a breathtaking first impression. After settling into your tented camp—chosen to bring you closer to the sounds of the African wild—set out on your inaugural game drive. With an expert guide at the helm, look for the rare reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, and Somali ostrich. As the golden hour approaches, keep a sharp eye out for leopards and lions resting among the rocky outcrops.
Day 2: Full Day Immersion in Samburu
Rise with the sun for an early morning game drive, the best time to witness predators on the move. Samburu is a true haven for birdwatchers, boasting over 450 species ranging from the dazzling superb starling to majestic birds of prey. Spend your morning tracking wildlife along the riverbanks, where elephants often congregate to bathe. In the afternoon, you have the option to visit a traditional Samburu village. This cultural exchange offers a meaningful look into the customs, vibrant attire, and rhythmic dances of the Samburu people. Retreat to your camp in the evening to enjoy the tranquility of the stars away from the city lights.
Day 3: Samburu Exploration and Return to Nairobi
On your final morning, venture into the hidden corners of the reserve for one last look at its unique inhabitants, such as the long-necked gerenuk or the Beisa oryx. After a final game drive and a hearty breakfast at the lodge, begin the journey back to Nairobi. This drive provides a final opportunity to appreciate the changing Kenyan landscapes and stop at local artisan shops for authentic souvenirs. You will arrive in Nairobi by late afternoon, where we will transfer you to the airport or your hotel, concluding an unforgettable northern circuit safari.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Packing Essentials for the Northern Frontier
The Samburu region is generally warmer and drier than Nairobi or the central highlands. Lightweight, breathable clothing in neutral tones (khaki, beige, or green) is highly recommended. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, and a reliable pair of binoculars to fully appreciate the 450+ bird species found in the reserve. While days are hot, a light jacket is useful for the early morning game drives when the air is crisp.
Health and Connectivity
Samburu is a remote destination where the Ewaso Ng’iro River serves as the primary lifeline. We recommend consulting your doctor regarding malaria prophylactics before travel. While many tented camps offer Wi-Fi in common areas, cellular signal can be intermittent deep within the reserve. This provides the perfect opportunity to unplug and fully immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the African bush.
The 4×4 Land Cruiser Advantage
To ensure the best possible experience, this safari is conducted in a custom-built 4×4 Land Cruiser. Unlike standard vans, these vehicles offer superior ground clearance and heavy-duty suspension, which are essential for navigating the rugged, sandy tracks of Northern Kenya. The pop-up roof provides a 360° unobstructed view, making it the gold standard for wildlife photography and comfortable long-distance travel.
