DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES

Day 1-2: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

In the morning at 08:00Hrs, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and embark on a scenic drive to Amboseli National Park, which is approximately a 4-hour journey from Nairobi. As you enter Amboseli, you will immediately be captivated by the stunning vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro, providing a picturesque backdrop to the park’s wide-open plains. Spend two full days exploring the park, searching for iconic species such as the African Fish Eagle, Secretary Bird, Martial Eagle, and various hornbill species. Keep an eye out for the rare and endangered Lesser Flamingo near the park’s swamps.

Day 3-4: Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park

Depart Amboseli and head to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush vegetation. Take a boat ride to Crescent Island, a sanctuary teeming with birdlife. Here, you can spot African Fish Eagles, African Jacanas, Goliath Herons, and many other water-associated species. Explore the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park, known for its towering cliffs and unique topography, offering opportunities to see Verreaux’s Eagle, Augur Buzzard, and various vulture species.

Day 5-6: Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo

Drive to Lake Bogoria, a soda lake renowned for its hot springs and flamingo populations. The lake’s alkaline waters attract a wide variety of bird species, including Greater and Lesser Flamingos, African Spoonbills, Little Grebes, and African Fish Eagles. Take a guided walk along the shores to observe the hot springs and appreciate the breathtaking scenery.

Continue your birding adventure to Lake Baringo, a freshwater lake known for its remarkable bird diversity. The area is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 470 species recorded. Explore the lake by boat, visiting various islands and observing African Fish Eagles, Goliath Herons, Great Cormorants, and the rare Hemprich’s Hornbill. You may also encounter other wildlife, such as hippos and crocodiles.

Day 7: Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart Lake Baringo and head to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its large populations of flamingos. The park is home to over 450 bird species, including the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe. Explore the park’s diverse habitats, from the lake’s shores to the surrounding acacia woodlands, and look out for species such as African Fish Eagles, Yellow-billed Storks, and Grey-crowned Cranes.

Day 8-9: Masai Mara National Reserve

Conclude your birding safari in Kenya with a 2 day visit to the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve. While primarily known for its incredible wildlife, the reserve also offers fantastic birding opportunities. The Mara River and its banks are home to African Fish Eagles, Marabou Storks, Secretary Birds, Lilac-breasted Rollers, Martial Eagles, Grey Crowned Cranes, Yellow-throated Longclaws, and Ground Hornbills. Apart from these species, you may also encounter various storks, herons, vultures, owls, and a wide variety of smaller birds.

Day 10: Masai Mara to Nairobi

After breakfast, depart the Masai Mara and drive back to Nairobi. Arrive in the afternoon and transfer to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your 10-day Birdwatching Safari Kenya.
