DAY ACTIVITIES
Nairobi National Park
Start your day by visiting Nairobi National Park, which is unique because it is located just outside the city center. It is the only national park in the world that is situated within a capital city’s boundaries. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including lions, giraffes, zebras, and rhinos. Visitors can go on game drives to observe these animals in their natural habitat, providing a remarkable experience that combines wildlife and urban life.
David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
After visiting Nairobi National Park, head to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. This conservation organization is renowned for its work in rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned elephants and rhinos. They provide a safe haven for these animals and work towards their eventual release back into the wild. We visit the trust during their public visiting hours, usually in the morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this time, you can see the orphaned elephants being fed and learn about their stories from the dedicated keepers. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get up close to these majestic creatures and support their conservation efforts.
Giraffe Centre
Next, make your way to the Giraffe Centre, which is a short distance from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The Giraffe Centre is a conservation center focused on the preservation of the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Here, you can learn about giraffes, their conservation, and even feed them from a raised platform. It’s a unique experience to be eye-level with these gentle giants and interact with them. The knowledgeable staff will provide you with information about the giraffes and their conservation efforts.
Nairobi City Centre
To experience the bustling atmosphere of Nairobi, a visit to the city center is a must. Here, you’ll find modern skyscrapers, busy markets, and a mix of traditional and contemporary architecture. The Kenyatta International Conference Centre offers panoramic views of the city from its rooftop, giving you a chance to appreciate Nairobi’s urban landscape.
