Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

In the morning at 07:00Hrs, you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and embark on a scenic drive to Samburu National Reserve, which is approximately a 5-hour journey from Nairobi. Upon arriving at Samburu National Park, you’ll be greeted by its breathtaking landscapes. The park is characterized by vast stretches of savannah grasslands, acacia woodlands, and meandering rivers that attract a rich variety of wildlife. After settling in at your accommodation, embark on your first game drive. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you’ll have the chance to spot the famous Samburu Five, which include the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the gerenuk. Keep an eye out for the big cats, as they are known to roam this area.

Day 2: Full Day Exploring Samburu

Rise early and set out for a morning game drive. As you explore the park, you’ll come across the Ewaso Ng’iro River, a lifeline for the animals that inhabit the region. Here, you might spot bathing elephants, crocodiles, and hippos. Your experienced guide will navigate through the reserve in search of the big cats. Lions are often seen lounging in the shade, leopards may be spotted in the trees, and cheetahs can be seen gracefully sprinting across the open plains. Enjoy thrilling game drives in search of these magnificent creatures and witness their impressive hunting skills.

Day 3: Samburu to Aberdares National Park

Next, Aberdares National park, a pristine mountainous region characterized by lush forests and cascading waterfalls. Keep an eye out for elephants, buffalos, and various bird species as you explore the park. Overnight in a cozy lodge, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the Aberdare Mountains.

Day 4: Solio Ranch

Continue your journey to Solio Ranch, a private wildlife conservancy renowned for its successful rhino conservation efforts. Witness these majestic creatures up close and personal, along with other wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, and antelopes.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park

After a delicious breakfast, proceed to Lake Nakuru, where you will be captivated by the vibrant pink hues of thousands of flamingos that flock to the lake’s shores. Enjoy game drives and spot various wildlife species, including rhinos, buffalos, and leopards. Spend the night in a lodge overlooking the lake, taking in the picturesque scenery.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara

After a delicious breakfast, bid farewell to Lake Nakuru and proceed to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. The drive itself is an adventure, as you traverse the scenic Rift Valley and witness the changing landscapes. Upon arriving at Masai Mara, you’ll be greeted by vast plains dotted with acacia trees, the quintessential African savannah setting. After settling into your accommodation, head out for an afternoon game drive, where you’ll have the opportunity to spot the “Big Five” (lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and rhinos) and other wildlife in their natural habitat. As the sun sets, marvel at the golden hues that blanket the savannah before returning to your camp for a relaxing evening.

Day 7-8: Masai Mara National Reserve - Exploring Big Cat Territory

Over the next two days, we immerse ourselves in the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife-rich plains of the Masai Mara. With its high concentration of predators, this reserve offers unparalleled opportunities to witness thrilling big cat encounters. We venture out on morning and afternoon game drives, guided by our experienced wildlife experts who will share their extensive knowledge and help us track down the elusive felines. Be prepared to witness incredible hunts, dramatic displays of power, and tender moments of family bonding among these awe-inspiring creatures.

Day 9: Masai Mara to Lake Naivasha

Depart Masai Mara after breakfast and drive to Lake Naivasha, known for its stunning scenery and abundant birdlife. Take a boat ride on Lake Naivasha, where you can spot various bird species and possibly hippos. After the boat ride, visit Crescent Island, which is a private sanctuary and a great place to walk among wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, and antelopes.

Day 10: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli National Park

Leave Lake Naivasha after breakfast and embark on a scenic drive to Amboseli National Park. As you enter Amboseli, you will immediately be captivated by the stunning vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro, providing a picturesque backdrop to the park’s wide-open plains. After checking into your lodge, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch before venturing out on an afternoon game drive.

During your game drive, keep your eyes peeled for the park’s diverse wildlife, including large herds of elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalos, and various antelope species. Amboseli is also home to predators such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals, so there’s always the possibility of witnessing a thrilling wildlife interaction.

Day 11: Full Day Exploring Amboseli

Rise early to catch the spectacular sunrise over Mount Kilimanjaro before setting off on a full day of exploration in Amboseli National Park. The morning hours provide excellent opportunities for wildlife sightings as animals are most active during this time.

You’ll have the chance to explore different areas of the park, visiting various waterholes where animals gather to quench their thirst. Amboseli’s swampy areas are particularly attractive to elephants, and you’ll likely come across large herds bathing and socializing in the muddy waters.

During the day, your guide will share their extensive knowledge about the park’s ecosystem, wildlife behavior, and conservation efforts. You’ll also enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature.

In the afternoon, you can choose to visit a Maasai village located near the park and learn about their traditional way of life, customs, and cultural practices. This immersive experience offers a unique insight into the Maasai’s deep connection with the wildlife and the land.

Day 12: Amboseli to Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast, depart Amboseli and head towards Tsavo West National Park. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, explore the park, which offers diverse landscapes including volcanic hills, savannahs, and the famous Mzima Springs, where you can observe hippos and crocodiles underwater from an underwater observatory. Enjoy a game drive and visit attractions such as Chaimu Crater and Shetani Lava Flow.

Day 13: Tsavo West to Tsavo East National Park

After breakfast, depart Tsavo West and drive to Tsavo East National Park, the largest national park in Kenya. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a game drive in search of wildlife, including large herds of elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species. Tsavo East is known for its red elephants, which are unique to the region.  

Day 14: Tsavo East to Nairobi

On the final day, enjoy an early morning game drive in Tsavo East to maximize your chances of spotting wildlife. After breakfast, bid farewell to this remarkable wilderness and start your journey back to Nairobi. Reflect on the incredible memories you’ve made during your safari, and perhaps stop at a local curio shop to pick up souvenirs before reaching Nairobi city. Arrive in the afternoon and transfer to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your 14-day Ultimate Kenya Safari Adventure.
